Amanda Mendoza

Stowe Center for Literary Activism

Amanda Mendoza (she/they) is a queer, first-generation Latine-American artist and muralist whose work is deeply rooted in personal healing and community connection. A survivor of childhood sexual and physical abuse, Amanda channels her experiences into her art, using it as a powerful tool for advocacy and transformation. Before dedicating herself to art full-time in January 2024, she spent six years working in the non-profit sector, focusing on victim advocacy for sexual assault survivors.

Amanda hosts painting workshops for afterschool and foster care programs, organizes fundraisers for domestic violence and sexual assault crisis centers, paints murals, and curates exhibits that uplift communities and reflect her belief in art’s capacity to make individuals feel seen and valued. Her artistic philosophy is grounded in the idea that art can do more than adorn spaces; it can heal and connect. She is committed to sharing her art with the world, embracing both its dark and colorful aspects, and believes in its profound ability to foster healing and hope.
